Several days ago we got together to discuss our general meeting schedule. I am listing that schedule below. Please make any comments or suggestions that you may have.
Topics (some may be blended together) ------------ 1. LVS (this came up because I already have the material together). (dustin) 2. Security - firewalls - hardening sytems - HIDS/NIDS - what are the most serious dangers / resources to stay on top of this 3. Backups & Restores - tar, cpio, tapes, common apps 4. General Networking - TCP/IP - Routers / routing / TCP/IP - Supporting AppleTalk, IPX/SPX, SMB/CIFS (dustin), etc. 5. Mail - sendmail, qmail, Postfix - IMAP, POP3, web-based email - Filtering - spam, AV - doing it securely over a public network - home mail servers (Terry) 6. Coding - C, Java, ... (Poo-bear) - gcc, gdb, profiling code, opt. techniques (Poo-bear) - OpenOffice uses a VB-like app. development env. (John H.) - web servers/php, mysql (LAMP) (Minos) G. Databases - MySQL, PostgreSQL, ... Items with names next to them (i.e., Minos) already have a volunteer presenter. That means we have about four months worth of material spoken for. Good job. I'd like everyone else to pick another topic. If topics aren't picked I'll go through the past archives, pick out some names, and volunteer you. :) Yes, I will hound you down like a dog until you agree to do the topic. Ask John.
