No John, You were right! true It does gives more results when you go to page -2 or so but its the first few or (10% as they say that really matters) who ever is doing a search would not look more than a page. Even Google has Bias in its searches. For example if you search for something chances are you would get a company that sells/related to that "something" in the top 10% of the results. Actually this topic came earlier on /. about the term "linux" and how the results for them were messed up.what would be funny is the look on MSNSearch engineers looking at "linux windows" getting more than half a million searches within couple of hours!!!
In any case google is better than other search engines. yahoo doesn't use google but the results from yahoo and google almost look similar(Ranking) I wonder why? here's what I think. if google had sold its soul to the devil it would have made things difficult for us. How? Most of the times when i run into a problem with linux,perl or informix or as a matter of fact anything i just google it and I am sure many of us do the same. Its a great way(read easier) to find solutions to problems. Now if MS had bought google and say they distort the first 10% of the results then what do you think would happen? How many of us would go to page 46747 to get to relevant result? alright you can call it far fetched but i all i see here is a conspiracy theory! Btw who uses MSN search anyway? Karthik
