Subject: Linux Workshop on Saturday... things I forgot
Date: Wed, 03 Mar 2004 21:24:02 -0600

All,
A few things that I need to clear up and remind you about for this
weekend...
I've had a few people email me asking whether they should go this
weekend if they don't know anything about Linux yet. This workshop, or
install fest as some are calling it, is designed to help those of you that
are new to Linux. The main purpose is to help you setup Linux on your
machine. If you have something on your machine that is just not working
right and you don't know where to go with it, then you could also benefit
from this workshop.(*most problems, not all*)
***A few things I forgot to mention:
   1. I would great if I knew about how many people are planning on
attending. Please RSVP if you plan to come.
   2. I also need to know who else will be helping with the actual
installs. I a few that I know for sure but we might be a little short.
   3. We can use some extra extension cords, power strips, etc...
   4. Dues are $7 and can be paid on Saturday (or before then if you can
track me down). This is important and needed.
   5. I'm bringing what we have for the cluster to start OS installs for
those. Donations are welcome. More will be discussed then.
   6. James Alt reminded me that if you need a legal copy of Winblows and
are a CS student then you can get that through byte. I recommend that you
do that. It is free.

That's all for now. Send those RSVPs to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The workshop for getting your Linux box setup is this Sat. as previously
scheduled. The room will be the International room on the 3rd floor of the
Union. We'll start at 10am and go until we're done or 3pm which ever comes
first.
Depending on the number of people we have vs the number of machines to
build, we should be able to get everyone setup with a flavor of Linux on
their system and if desired a dual boot with Windoze.
Things to remember to do PRIOR to coming. Back up ALL data that you do
not want to lose. There will formatting going on and stuff happens. Bring
your legal copy of Windows if you are going to build a dual boot. I'll
probably send an email out later with more things you should remember to
bring.
