Go to Tim's Computer and ask him for an AOpen Laptop without an OS. My employer, Bits Technical, will sell him one without charging him for an OS. You may end up paying as much for a Dell, but none of them money goes to M$. You can also custom configure the thing, processor, memory and the like. It's likely that he has one on display that you can test with Knoppix before you buy. There are other AOpen vendors in town, but Tim's has a store front.
