John:

Talk to Shannon Dennis about the use of Linux in
Higher Ed before you pen that article. Linux and Open
Source in general gets a lot of use in Higher Ed.
What Higher Ed uses now, the public uses later (See
details on ArpaNet, Mosaic, AI, and Linux for
examples..)

It has even crept into (dare I say it?) the
bureaucracy. OK, I shoved it in sideways, but it is
there baby. I opened with high slow lob.

"We can't afford Adobe Photoshop for everyone in the
department? Boss, I'm sorry, but for what you want
that is THE industry standard. However, and I know
you think I am right-wing radical, but this is
different, it is Open Source software. It will do the
job for free."

One task, one opportunity at a time. I use it
regularly. Several people in the office use Open
Office now, most of us have GIMP.

Dennis and Shannon make MUCH more use of Open Source
than my meager efforts. That can give you a hat full
of information. Anyone who says a Research University
isn't a business hasn't worked for one. If Open
Source has a purpose in a state of the art research
university, then trust me, it has legs.

Talk to them first.

Now, what the devil is wrong with your leg? I caught
part of it. You're in a gimp-trolly? What gives?

Anything I can do to help? I put you on the paryer
list already, but my cousins say knowing what to pray
for helps. I'm not sure why. Doesn't God already
know? What, are they afraid of? Are their prayers
going to get routed to auto repair?

Warmest Regards,

Doug Riddle
It seems that God keeps trying to take me away, and all that ever hears Him is
my hair. Why don't the ones in my ears hear Him? That's just not right.
