Hello everyone:
I have the strangest problem I have ever encountered. It deals with a
Linksys router and a W11S4PC or I have seen it also referenced as WPC11
V4.

The problem is as follows. I have been using this setup without problems
with Debian and kernel 2.4.20 with the version 1.5 of the realtek
driver. Everything worked beautifully.

I had been noticing some strange activity with the router so I decided
to play a little bit and tried to install ettercap. This application is
on the unstable debian repository; therefore, while installing other
applications where also upgraded. I did this not with the wireless card
but a 3Com card which seems to perform faster. When I went to use the
wireless it did not work. I figured something got upgraded that broke
things down. I did not feel like figuring out the problem so I simply
reinstalled Debian.

Here is the problem. I installed debian and reisntalled the driver of
the card with the kernel, I had it archived. Now the driver loads fine
but I get no response from the network. I recompiled the driver and
kernel with the configuration files known to work and nothing. I
inspected the kernel setup and looks like it should work, all I really
need is the Networking, PCMCIA, PCMCIA wireless and the Wireless
(hamradio) for this driver to work. I did that but no results.

Then I figured maybe a setup with the Router. I tried with windows 98
and the card seems to be working just fine.

My question is what type of trouble shooting can I do to diagnose what
the problem is? I have tried manually setting up the IP but I get no
response from any computer on the network. The driver is loaded and I
see light activity on the card but I cannot ping any other machine on
the network. This card was working 3 days ago with the same
distribution, kernel, driver, and setup.

The only difference is that while updating apt-get, it might be getting
different versions of the packages.

HELP!

Thanks,

Alvaro
