It's hard to make apt move slow on Debian. I'm doing an unstable upgrade and two cad program installs via dselect from a konsole in Window maker with 8 virtual desktops, three ssh -X sesions, Gimp2, browsers, kontact and a game of kbounce going. I'm still getting 225+ kB/s download speeds, which is about saturation for the 10mbs firewall I use. The whole process is a little slower than if I'd turned everything off, but that would make it hard to play kbounce.
