Uh, honey,

I think you meant ULOSG (instead of BRLUG), kind of a far piece to go for a
get-together - not that BRLUG members wouldn't be welcome, just let us know
you're coming so I could throw a little extra on the grill.

James

GREAT!! I think you are going to LOVE Lafayette. We all have our episodes
of frustration, but overall UL is just down right nice. Dorm or Apt? Need
anything for either? Please let me know if I can assist you in any way.
(I'm going to sweet talk to James about a BBQ with BRLUG right before school
starts) I hope to be out of there in another semester or so, but I am
always available to all of you on campus or attending UL.

Oh, just found out someone is trying to start a Rocket Society on campus.
Got his number...umm for business purposes, if anyone is interested in
helping out with that. Need to find funding.

Outie my dog (HA, I just can't pull that off never mind)

Sonja

Sure it is. GMail is indexing into a database keywords from everyone's
emails, then they're encouraging users not to worry about deleting old
emails since they now have a gig of storage space. None of the other
services are offering searches this powerful, and i doubt that any of
them even would have the hardware and technology to be able to do it as
well as Google does. On its own, that kind of service would seem like a
nice thing to have for an email user, yes.

But read this excerpt from http://gmail-is-too-creepy.com:
"Google uses the term "governmental request" three times on their
terms-of-use page and once on their privacy page. Google's language
means that all Gmail account holders have consented to allow Google to
show any and all email in their Gmail accounts to any official from any
government whatsoever, even when the request is informal or extralegal,
at Google's sole discretion."

Sure, any of the other providers would probably turn over your email or
let the FBI hook up a carnivore box to their servers if they got a
subpoena. But what this looks like is a blanket go-ahead from google to
allow the feds to search their entire database for anything they want.
Just seems a little too likely to the conspiracy theorists that maybe
Google isn't really totally privately-run..
