It was slow and it hurt, but I just finished putting Sarge on a P1 133MHz machine. It worked with 64MB of RAM and the system took about 2.5 Gigs of drive space. Included were KDE 3.2, Open Office and other goodies. X set up painlessly and the Gnome Display Manager was used. A 15 meg boot partiton solved BIOS boot problems for the 80 gig hard drive. Grub was set up with a rescue boot option that proved handy when the victim's control character filled password goofed GDM.
I was surprised by how well the system ran. It boots in reasonable time and KDE is usable. Fluxbox ran faster, of course. The victim said that the machine boots and runs faster than their virused up Windows 98 on similar or better hardware. Such new software running on such old hardware was very impressive.
