Well, they have switched to gentoo (I am not actually working on anything yet, just doing research). They are working on minimizing the system as much as possible.
As far as what they need, All I really know, is that they need to have the code run an algorithm every 10 ms (or some such number). Maybe just a way to poll the system clock, or use it(the clock) to tell some process to wake up after so much time has passed. However we do it... we need a process to run so many times a second, so we can make sure that nothing gets hung up waiting.
