I am not so sure about that.  

On other Linux mailing lists, I have been called a "socialist", a
"communist", a "damned liar", and a "dirty linux hippy" for merely
suggesting that Free software was an important concept ethically, rather
than just financially.  I stopped using those lists, not because I was
being attacked for my principles, but because I don't want to, in any
way, support any parts of the Linux community that doesn't fully support
and endorse the Free Software philosophy.

It's hard to escape politics when some of the founding philosophies
behind Linux were political in nature.
