More or less. You know, I had a political argument with a person from U.T. Brownsville the other night at the observatory. I conceded that Bush ain't the greatest president, but given the options I was still voting for him (or at least Badnarik) over Kerry. Anyway, he got off on the subject of the economy & Bush's spending frenzy. Which then led to the recession that Clinton created and Bush cutting taxes to stimulate the economy. He claims that when the economy heats up the taxes should go back up. So, I say why not just cut the damn entitlements and gov. spending instead of raising taxes. The difference between Cons and Libs is that one wants to empower people, the other wants to empower gov't. Anyway, somehow we got onto the "redistribution of wealth." this has to be one of the things that pisses me off the most. He thinks that once a person dies, his children have no claim to what that person earned while on this planet. Everything should be given up to the government. After all, the children did not earn it, so why should they have it. More of the class warfare crap. So, I told him that if he did not like it, go live in socialism or communism, but don't *&^% up this country since that is not what it was founded on. How does he have any right to take what my father earned from my sister and I? Same goes for my paycheck on a daily basis. Gov't sanctioned theft. So, his remark to me was, I was born an American, why should I have to go live somewhere else to see the kind of society I want? My reply to him was "What have you done to earn your right to vote? To free speech? Oh that's right, you were born here. So you reap the benefits and the "luck" of being born in this great nation... So why can someone's children not reap the benefits and luck of their parents' hard labor? After all, they likely worked as hard as they did so that they could provide a future for their children." What pisses me off about the libs is they want this great utopian society. It is never gonna happen. Life ain't fair. At least in America you have the OPPORTUNITY to make this life what you want it to be. If you don't seize on that opportunity, so be it, but don't blame me and my wallet. Libs have forgotten about two little words that mean a whole lot: personal responsibility. For me the libs come closer to 1984 than the cons any day. Yeah, I don't agree with the Patriot Act, etc. however it seems the libs want a world where everyone gets the same size cubicle, the same bland apartment for everyone, everyone makes exactly the same amount of money no matter what they do, is entitled to the same 1.5 children, etc. etc. etc. If you deviate at all from what they think is normal and rational or "want" something that you do not "need", then you are an extremist, or a nut, or greedy. Why should someone be penalized because they are successful? If libs really wanted to be fair, they would not hate the idea of a flat tax. But every conversation I've had with the libs shows me that they detest this idea. Or do away with income tax and bring in a sales tax or a use tax. Personally, I like the fact that not everyone is wealthy, or lucky, or the same intelligence. It makes this life interesting. I was not dealt a good hand when I was brought into this world, but I made the best of it. 'bout damn time some other people start doing the same, or quit bitchin about the rich people in this world and being pissed off because they have what you don't. He chose to be a research physicist at a university. So he barely makes middle class wages and will never be wealthy. He chose that path, and that probably is what makes him happy. But he CHOSE IT. Stop being pissed that there are people in this world that have things that he does not and wanting the gov't to take it from them, because in his eyes they are not "worthy". Libs have an entirely different philosophy, one that nauseates me. IT DRIVES ME NUTS the double standard that the libs have.
