I actually have installed and used this since this post. SimplyMEPIS
truly is an awesome distro. The install literally took 20 mins, and it
auto-detected everything. Debian-based so you know its rock solid.
Nothing to set up. I highly advise anyone who is looking into a nice,
easy, stable desktop distro to check it out.

Obviously, if gentoo or slack is your thing you wont like this, but I
think that it targets a different crowd.

I must agree, it is a most excellent article! The author states "The
typical desktop user doesn't want to become a computer expert to do
their work. They do not want to learn a new operating system to get
their work done. They want an easy way to access the tools they need to
get their job done and they need a robust and reliable environment to
run their applications." The key words in the above statement are
"typical desktop user" and I could not agree more. Keeping this in mind
has been the reason that we have seen distros like Mepis, Knoppix,
Lycoris, Libranet, ELX, Xandros and others come to the marketplace and
enjoy the success that they have enjoyed so far.
