I think what andrew is saying is that bleeding edge distros require more
than what these old PCs can provide, and they should look for something
thinner.

Also, hopefully they are giving, not selling.

David, is there any possibility of an image here or are these all
cobbled together out of different PC parts? If its an image situation
than you could set up a support group for it (like phptroubleticket) or
a mailing list and take care of it that way..... also you could bring
them back to center by just reloading an image.....

I really would suggest simplyMepis since it does so well installing HW
and is so easy to use.... but there is the running slow problem.....
hmmn.

The other route... all different PC's... man that's quite a chore even
for a dedicated support staff. Im not so into that. My lab is like that
now and well, it sucks to admin.

Hmmn. Im interested. Maybe if you can get me an example box we can try
to get something going....

Any other ideas?

Chris

Subject: RE: [brlug-general] Distribution of linux to the masses

 "not run very well"

and

"Not run at all" are two different things.
He's going to be selling these computers to people who don't
currently own a computer. They probably don't have any
bearing for how fast or slow Windows is so a slow
Linux probably won't make a difference to them.
Most likely these people have never used Windows
so there won't really be a Windows->Linux learning
curve. So at least with Suse they might be able to get
help from someone or the net, but with Damn Small Linux when they
ask for help they're just going to get strange looks.
Hmm... well they'll probably get strange looks either
way, but ...
