The laptop being sub $500 is of interest to me, no matter whether or not it runs any flavor of Linux as we can easily reformat as needed.
Best Buy recently sold a Toshiba Celeron M laptop with 1.3Ghz/256Ram for $499 as part of their day-after-Thanksgiving sale. This is way more powerful than that VIA C3/1.0 machine. Unfortunately, there were only 40 of them and you had to camp out all night to get one. I think that Wal-Mart's motivation for bundling Linspire is to simply offer the lowest priced laptop out there rather than having the best quality/best performance hardware. What does the local BRLUG think about LinSpire's pay CNR service? I haven't been around here long enough to view the debates that I'm sure occurred when Lindows first came out....
