Louisiana Tryingto Lure Video Game Industry

MythTV/BTTV is a bad, bad combination. MythTV uses proprietary (free,
open-source, but nonstandard) extensions to the NuppelVideo codec to encode
their RTJPEG/MPEG4 broadcasts on software (bt87x) cards that cannot be
played on default installs of mplayer.

A patch is required, and most/all distributions' installs of mplayer do not
contain that patch. (With Gentoo, if you have MythTV in your "use" flags
mplayer gets built with the patch, but I can confirm that Debian and any
debian based distro's do not have any official debs that have it enabled)

The hardware cards (WinTV PVR-250,ivtv) record in bog-standard MPEG2. They
are $120 however.

This is a showstopper for me as I use XBOX/XBMC to play recorded content,
and I can't seem to build a mplayer.dll for XBOX that supports MythTV's
proprietary extensions!

I assume "Lost" is some kinda scheduled broadcast
video content.

C'mon man, it is the 21st century already. Take
control of your neural diet and timeshift! Remove your
chains of corporate advertisement bondage! ;)
