Who here is dealing with RFID on a practical basis? (Pilot, Production).
I have folks leaning on me to adopt this technology.

I have a problem with adoption of currently sold RFID technologies for
several reasons:

        1. Not mature enough. I do not see a track record.

        2. Too much marketing hype. Sold as a panacea.
                The concept suffers from with buzzwordism;
where I've seen no actual pro/con/interesting
studies. The studies I've seen are vapor-ware
                silver-bullet solutions geared toward non
                technical people.

        3. Not enough implementation details.
I've not seen an actual system in use.
I'm not hearing of many implementations
outside of grocery stores. I'm not seeing
any results for those things more fine-grained
than pallets. I have heard of no one's "war stories"
                concerning any implementation.

        4. Most business solutions I see are m$-centric.
There are some devices that purportedly support
linux (mainly readers - usually serial interfaces
                - big duh..) but I've yet to see the tech neutral
(i.e. linux friendly) printer/rfid generator support.

Agree? Differ? I'd like to know (and why) and your take on this emerging
technology.
