You need a DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch as the PSU's on the 
old machines are wired to switch both live and return wires.  I'd also 
(speaking from experience) make damn sure that the wires to the switch 
are well insulated so that you can't bump into them.  Alternatively, if 
your PSU has an on/off switch, you could just solder the power switch 
wires together (insulate them) and use the power switch on the back of 
the PSU to turn the whole thing on and off.
