Open Zaurus has rolled out the second Bit Bake built distribution. GPE, at least, has vastly improved over 5.3.2 which was close to unusable. It's got X11, real users, great handwriting recognition and cool Gnome versions of PIM software. Interesting looking packages are linphone-hh, inkscape, gaim, sylpheed, thunderbird and the multimedia feed. I installed it last weekend and have not had time to try much.
Ogg123 did not work for me but it's closer than it was last time. Beepmp, I hope will work. Dillo works great, and I'm looking forward to trying out Minimo, a minimal Mozilla. X11 works well and so does ssh. Sometimes a real keyboard is nice so ssh into it from a laptop and export programs. Rxvt sessions can be started as well as GUI programs. Sftp does not seem to work by default. Go see for yourself: http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/feed/
