Amen! Those were exactly my thoughts on the subject, but I was hoping
someone else would make the point. Thanks, Justin, for mentioning the
frequently ignored AUP.
In my case, it is "Cox or nothing" -- DSL isn't available in my
neighborhood ("it's all over Baton Rouge, oh, you're in Shenandoah, it just
doesn't work there"). If I screw around with running servers and lose my
Cox account, it would be back to dialup. Plus, I don't have to worry about
keeping the system up, keeping it patched (except for apps I install at my
webhost), backups, MySQL backups, disk space, and such other issues.
Also, with paid webhosting, I'm free to put Google adsense ads on the page
-- which has more than paid for my webhosting <big grin>.
