Last weekend I gave Mepis 3.3 and it's Nvidia X a try.  It's an option on the 
hd install and it worked without a hitch.  Tux Racer worked usably for the 
first time on any of my systems and I hiked up X to 1200 x 1024, my monitor's 
max.  I'm looking forward to many other games working now, though I imagine 
it will be more difficult to maintain than regular X.  It got a little fussy 
when I did an upgrade but worked again after reboot.
