Personally, I got the apple for the hardware, not necessarily because it was
smoother or cooler unless by smooth and cool you mean a sexy looking laptop
that works very well, hehe. I don't run OSX on it nor do I use it for games
either. The biggest thing that I have learned about ppc since getting it is
the number of companies who claim that their software is supported under
linux when what they mean is x86-linux is supported. Of these the biggest
annoyance to me is not being able to tryout most of the "linux" soft phones
on my laptop.

My first gentoo install was on a 233Mhz. I still think it was worth the
wait. Durring compile you can get plenty of reading done :-)

The adage security through obscurity comes to mind on this but I think
setting up sshd in a chroot plus adding port knocking protection is a bit
more secure.

Hope that help someone with any security concerns they may have.

lol, sorry but the first thing that came to mind after reading that was the
image of a tatooed up Rent-a-cop sleeping in a chair in a lobby.

Things have changed a lot since 1.x. Compile times have probably tripled.

Hells yeah, you can get several *days *of reading done.

Well, it's a laptop. I couldn't care less how long it takes. If I need
a computer in the meantime, I have a Linux box, a Windows box, a Mac,
or another laptop (that's unfortunately running Windows since my wife
is playing Sims 2...)

Right now, though, I can't even get the CD to boot. I posted in the
forum and I have the suggestion to try running with nodma when I get
home.
