Well it's not exactly hard to detect if a box is x86 or x86_64 is it?
I'm not certain of keyboard detection abilities, but if the user
chooses "104 key US" as their keyboard during X install then it's
reasonable to think that all 104 keys would be utilized.  

I do know that on my sparc install, they keyboard in /etc/rc.conf
defaults to a sun keyboard just as on my x86 box it defaults to a pc
style keyboard.  So I'm thinking it's not hard to take that a step
further and default the configs for common X environments.  Yeah, it's
a small detail, but those are the nice touches that users appreciate.
