I think that even if the Earth was half destroyed by evil aliens the 
Nigerian scammers would still be out there looking to make a quick buck.

As for local talk radio streams, there are a few. Yes, the coverage is much 
better than what you get on the mainstream media. Here are the two I know 
of:

All of the Citadel Broadcasting stations in LA are all broadcasting
the same things, and are providing very good information.
Here in Lafayette we are listening to 93.7
