I recently purchased a maxspeed 5200 thinclient. Its specs are:
300mhz geode proc.
64MB RAM
WinCE

It has a 44pin IDE controller (the kind for a laptop, also might have 2)
CF Card reader
2 usb ports
ps/2 ports
parallel
2 serial

The RAM is upgradable (pc100 sdram only, and some sticks are too tall).

Basically, its a small pc, with 43 watt power consumption, very similar
to a soekris board.

I bought it for $20. Soekris boards run $200+ for something similar
(but they are slightly smaller).

So now the question. How would I get linux onto this thing? I have
already tried installing linux to a laptop hard drive, and moving it to
the thinclient, but that didn't work ( I don't know what the bios sees
the drive as, so I just keep getting a grub error). I am sure I would
get the same problem if I tried to use a cfcard. Its not usb bootable.
I don't have any boot options in fact, if a hard drive is detected, it
boots from that, if not, it boots wince, which i know nothing about.
There is very little public information about this kit.

Any ideas, other than some ide converters, an extra power supply, and a
cdrom drive?

wow, this is along post :(

thanks in advance,
mat
