It depends on your connection to Ma Bell. A regular home/office user could probably not spoof the Caller ID. We tried with asterisk haha. The University has an Avaya PBX connected to Bellsouth with many PRI's. For a testing project we did get a T1 connected from the Avaya system to our Linux box using Asterisk. We were then able to spoof the caller id, even calling outside lines though Bellsouth. The Avaya system seemed to "trust" the caller id info from Asterisk, and I guess Bell trusted our Avaya system. We also did some other cool Asterisk stuff, like simultaneously ringing 23 telephones on the first floor haha. :)
