Another call to BS produced a work-around: Konqueror. There doesn't seem to be a newer version of Fireiox that 1.5.0.1 to try. I don't mind using Konqueror for a while except for the loss of use of existing bookmarks. I haven't reinstalled Thunderbird because with a new version of Fedora imminent that would mean more saved messages to chance losing. My partner resists any kind of change, threatening to go to quill pens!
