Worms, Sounds like the same problem i had. Getty's aren't being started on your virtual terminals. I posted a fix here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=424078
Apparently it's a known problem with converting some stuff in /etc/inittab. --------------------- Re: feisty boot problem The problem is with the 'Unknown stanza' error messages in event.d. A typo prevents the getty's from starting on the virtual terminals. So you never get a login prompt. Look at /etc/event.d/tty1. The 2 last lines should look like this: exec /sbin/getty 38400 tty1 respawn Notice the very very bad typos... i'm not sure how such a bug slipped through. Fix it in the tty1 through tty6 files, reboot, and you should be able to login. Perhaps someone can report this bug if it's not already known. I haven't looked yet. I just upgraded from dapper to edgy to feist. Now on to the next problem haha. ray ------------------------- On Wed, 2 May 2007, worms wrote: > Hello, > > Since fesity seems to be a popular tpici right now, maybe someone else > has run across this too. > > I installed Kubuntu feisty last night and everything worked great out > of the box except for a small problem with X. > > Whenever I logout / shutdown / crtl+alt+bksp I get black screen with > just the cursor and the machine stays in that state until reset. > Can't change to one of the virtual consoles or anything. > > Tonight I'm going to get SSH setup for remote login so I can > investigate a little more. > > --Lance Lambert > > _______________________________________________ > General mailing list > General at brlug.net > http://mail.brlug.net/mailman/listinfo/general_brlug.net > -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ray DeJean http://www.r-a-y.org Systems Engineer Southeastern Louisiana University IBM Certified Specialist AIX Administration, AIX Support =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
