If it is a Windows box, I'd suggest trying GetDataBack NTFS (or FAT).
I've had a lot of success with this software on formatted drives.

Subject: [brlug-general] Computer forensics?

Can anyone point me to a local (Baton Rouge, NOLA, etc) resource for
computer forensics? Specifically, someone that is aware of handling
deleted files, archiving disk information for later review, etc.
