Very interesting interview. I knew PostgreSQL was the default db on Solaris distributions (at least 11/06 and 08/07), but I didn't realize how involved Sun was in the development. And I'm glad to see their policy about not shipping with any patches that don't have a really good shot at getting into the mainline. There was an announcement recently about a PostgreSQL patch to support SELinux labels. With Sun having the Trusted Extensions in Solaris 10 just to get EAL4+LSPP, it will be interesting to see if some of those patches have to do with TX. Or even better, if the pgsql daemon learns to read CIPSO headers on packets sent to its port. On another note, the db holy war is very much in the realm of vi/emacs, Linux/BSD, GPL/BSD, and the like. The PostgreSQL developers were wise to dodge that. I like that PostgreSQL focuses so much on standards compliance to aid in portability, both in terms of ANSI SQL and POSIX interfaces, and I tend to use it for my own projects, but I've used others and I don't engage in zealotry about it. -- Thanks, Fernando Vilas fvilas at iname.com -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
