bait. Anyway, yeah, I did find that interesting and a GOOD thing. ASF is responsible for a lot of useful software, including but not limited to.. Apache HTTP server. For one thing, Tomcat and other ASF Java foundation software is everywhere, and directly competes with Microsoft on several levels.
I was just commenting the other day to Ronnie here that the InstallAnywhere system being used a lot these days rocks for Java. Instead of having Java installed, the JRE is packaged into the software basically and so you can launch these things without doing any other installs. It runs on Windows, Linux, UNIX, etc, although you often have different downloads for each platform, it's still a million times easier on the dev and the end-user (me!). -- Dustin Puryear President and Sr. Consultant Puryear Information Technology, LLC 225-706-8414 x112 http://www.puryear-it.com Author, "Best Practices for Managing Linux and UNIX Servers" http://www.puryear-it.com/pubs/linux-unix-best-practices/ Brad Bendily wrote: > uh oh, Microsoft giving money to another open source software company. > Open source software company making deals with MS, everyone better > dump this software and find another option. > > http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080725-microsoft-to-sponsor-of-the-apache-software-foundation.html > > _______________________________________________ General mailing list [email protected] http://mail.brlug.net/mailman/listinfo/general_brlug.net
