Thanks, but I'm not into temporary gifts that come with strings attached and 
may not always do what you think they do.

There's been a seasonal dip in gasoline prices around election time for the 
last six to eight years.  You can chalk it up to the dip between the "summer 
driving season" and winter heating season, but that does not explain why you 
won't find it in the data before year 2000.  The alternate explanation is 
that gasoline has been overpriced all along and only comes down so that it 
can go back up.
