Do you feel the huge influx of commercial development teams supporting
open source is a good thing (e.g., IBM)?

The article makes its points and I don't think that they would come as a
surprise to anyone who's been kicked through a few different companies
over the years. It's much the same point that's made twenty years ago
in The Mythical Man-Month - smaller teams are better than larger teams
when it comes to successfully implementing an idea, program, hardware or
concept.

Apple is a good example of a company run from the top, and sadly, HP
these days is an example of the failure of large teams - I think MS is
somewhere in the middle these days.

You also see a similar effect in the open source world - look back on
the Linux kernel development from the first Bitnet announcement to today
for example.

Good article!

http://www.techradar.com/news/world-of-tech/why-every-tech-firm-needs-a-
tyrant-at-the-top-669583

The article discusses the issue of having too much management vs. a
strong, central authority on top.

It does mention Microsoft. Don't go on a rant. This is about management
philosphy more than a specific company. ;-)
