I think tablets is general are overpriced, but the Xoom (which has a leaked
BestBuy price of $699-- unsubsidized) is pretty much in line with what the iPad
costs, if you consider that it's a 32GB model that has wifi and 3G. As far as
I
know, the 32GB iPad with Wifi/3G is running ~$650-700, which is basically the
same price point. At any rate, it's new technology, you're dealing with solid
state drives and cutting edge mobile processors. And there's always a premium
for being an early adopter. 3-4 years from now and these things will be a lot
more affordable. Also, I'm sure at some point they'll offer a subsidized Xoom
with 2-year 3G contract, presumably through Verizon.

Personally, i don't care about having 3G on a tablet. If i'm away from home
and
need internet access that bad, I would just use the phone I have in those rare
situations and not pay the monthly 3G cost... Or I could just tether the
tablet
to my phone for that matter. So, I think the one shortcoming in the Xoom
pricing is the lack of a cheaper, non-3G option. But, they'll probably add
that
option later... isn't this what Apple did with the iPad launch as well? or was
it the opposite?

That's crazy. I'll probably either buy a Nook color and root and ROM it
or look at the Galaxy Tab.
