I use Dropbox for this. It keeps version history and syncs files to the cloud. It's also great for sharing folders with others across the internet. If you're looking for something non-clouded, you can look at one of the many CDP (Continuous Data Protection) products available. Without knowing more about your specific case, it'd be hard to make a better recommendation. Do you want something that lives on a single PC, on a whole network, across all your customers?
