Not necessarily: “Building stuff is neat but it’s practical applications that
keeps people interested.” It’s different for different people.

Anyway, make.br looks cool. If a joint event sounds like a win let us know
make.br!

After finally tracking down make.br (not a domain, initially I thought maybe
they’d been slash dotted) it looks like only a few people attending - it might
have helped to explain just what a Joule Thief actually does to get people
interested. Building stuff is neat but it’s practical applications that keeps
people interested.

I’ve been very pleased to see the renewed interest in this forum recently - it
would be nice if it can continue.

Very cool! Maybe BRLUG and the makers group should do something jointly.

Does a circuit board look like pure magic? Have you ever wondered how a bunch
of wires and strange looking parts come together to make a functioning device?
Or have you dabbled in electronics before and need a bit of review or just want
to learn more and build a cool project?

Whichever your situation, join us for a two part class and walk away with an
awesome Joule Thief flashlight and loads of knowledge!

We'll start off with an introduction on the first day to the various circuit
components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, LEDs, transistors,
etc.... We'll build some simple circuits on breadboards to showcase each
component's abilities and make sure you have the necessary knowledge for part 2.

In the second session we'll build up a Joule Thief circuit on a breadboard,
discuss how/why it works, and then you'll solder it into a compact
self-contained circuit to take home.

(Part 2 will require soldering, so if you need to learn how to solder, join us
an hour early on Thursday for an intro to soldering.)

Part 1: Tuesday, July 26, 7:00 - 9:00pm
Part 2: Thursday, July 28, 7:00 - 9:00pm

Standard cost: $50 (Plus separate $15 for the soldering class) + processing fees
