Hello all, My parents were early adopters of home computing—their first machine was a TRS-80, but I grew up using the Atari 800XL, which served us until around 1996. I got my first taste of computer programming by copying BASIC programs out of Compute! magazine. Fast forward to the present, I work in the convention/live production business, sometimes as a stagehand but more often as a network and telephone administrator/tech. In my spare time, I'm working on a electrical engineering degree.
My experience with Linux is fairly basic—I've built a Ubuntu Server VM to handle a digital signage application at work (saving around $10,000 a year on licensing), and have experimented with a few other things, but I'm not yet fully comfortable with the CLI. When I'm working on something with Linux, I have to consult documentation for every step of the process. I've joined this list so I can listen to and learn from more experienced voices, and build connections with like-minded local folks. Some projects i'm working on right now involving Linux include setting up a PBX with Asterisk, implementing a employee scheduling solution using OpenSkedge, and using OpenHab on a Pine64 single-board computer to act as a controller for a building automation project. --Daniel LeBlanc On Sun, Aug 7, 2016 at 2:02 PM, Dustin Puryear <[email protected]> wrote: > Tell us a little about yourself and how you use Linux, BSD, PHP, or > whatever it is that drew you to BRLUG. > > > > --- > Dustin Puryear, Founder & Technology Strategist > My direct number: 225-304-6402 > Main: 225-706-8414 | Fax: 800-613-5731 | www.puryear-it.com > > Puryear IT, LLC - We see IT differently. > Baton Rouge IT Support > <http://www.puryear-it.com/computer-support/baton-rouge/> & New Orleans > IT Support <http://www.puryear-it.com/computer-support/new-orleans/> > Cloud, Windows, Exchange, SQL Server, Linux, UNIX > > 2016 Honoree of the MSP 501: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Best MSPs > <https://www.puryear-it.com/puryear-ranked-among-top-501-managed-service-providers-penton-technologys-mspmentor> > 2014 Honoree of the LSU 100: Fastest Growing Tiger Businesses > <http://www.lsu100.com/> > 2013 Honoree of the LSU 100: Fastest Growing Tiger Businesses > <http://www.lsu100.com/> > 2012 Honoree of the Silicon Bayou 100 > <http://siliconbayounews.com/2012/12/24/2012-silicon-bayou-100-group-4/> > > _______________________________________________ > General mailing list > [email protected] > http://brlug.net/mailman/listinfo/general_brlug.net > >
