Hello all,

My parents were early adopters of home computing—their first machine was a
TRS-80, but I grew up using the Atari 800XL, which served us until around
1996. I got my first taste of computer programming by copying BASIC
programs out of Compute! magazine.
Fast forward to the present, I work in the convention/live production
business, sometimes as a stagehand but more often as a network and
telephone administrator/tech. In my spare time, I'm working on a electrical
engineering degree.

My experience with Linux is fairly basic—I've built a Ubuntu Server VM to
handle a digital signage application at work (saving around $10,000 a year
on licensing), and have experimented with a few other things, but I'm not
yet fully comfortable with the CLI. When I'm working on something with
Linux, I have to consult documentation for every step of the process. I've
joined this list so I can listen to and learn from more experienced voices,
and build connections with like-minded local folks.

Some projects i'm working on right now involving Linux include setting up a
PBX with Asterisk, implementing a employee scheduling solution using
OpenSkedge, and using OpenHab on a Pine64 single-board computer to act as a
controller for a building automation project.
