Pete - appreciate your assistance.

I have resolved the issue - sad to say it was "user" error.

I was entering my network username/password for the server in the form
vs. the Mark Logic Server software username/password.

I'm up and running. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my issue.

Hi Gary,

That looks correct. No, you don't have to do anything with the .dlls.
You only need to install the .wsp file using stsadm. (then deploy the
solution in central admin, activate on the team site, and configure
(assuming you have site collection admin priveleges), etc.) It's that
simple. J

Before the error message when clicking "test configuration" do you see
any other messages? A message similar to:

Status: Connection to xcc://admin:***...@localhost:8200/ succeeded:
ML-Version-Edition-Platform: 4.0-5-Enterprise-winnt Server: sharepoint
Time: 2009-06-29-07:00 15:36:30-07:00

Until the connection is configured, assuming the connector and
MarkLogic have been installed and configured properly, the test will
provide a succeeded message, followed by the error you're seeing. Once
configured however, that message should not appear.

Can I ask what parameters you are putting in the configuration form for
Host, Port, Username, Password?

Example I'm using on dev machine:

Host: localhost

Port:8200

Username:admin

Password:something

Something you may want to try is to set the log level for SharePoint
Connector to "Debug" and see if that provides any more meaningful info.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete - items 2 and 3 I've checked.

For item 1, I placed the .xqy files in the folder - C:\Program
Files\MarkLogic\Modules\MarkLogic\SharePoint

For my XDBC server definition, I have the root set to -
Modules/MarkLogic/SharePoint/

The Mark Logic and Sharepoint servers are test servers that I just set
up - so they are about as plain vanilla as you can get.

I turned on trace events in Mark Logic for the SPC requests event but
nothing shows in the ErrorLog.txt file leading me to believe it has
nothing to do with the Mark Logic setup.

I turned on Debug level logging in Sharepoint and see the same errors
the U/I is giving me, mainly MLConnector.SPCModuleRequest: Object
reference not set to an instance of an object.

Do the .dll files included with the connector package need to be placed
anywhere? I left them in the same folder as the .wsp file - and also
tried placing them in the Windows\system32.

Thanks for your help,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Some configurations to double-check that if not setup properly may cause
this error:

1) Have you copied the .xqy files to MarkLogic and is the XDBC
Server you've configured have its root directory set to the SharePoint
directory containing the .xqy files?

2) Does your password contain any special characters? Some
characters are not properly escaped ((^,#,@) this has been fixed and
will be available in a future release )

3) Are you a site collection administrator on the SharePoint site?
(Site Settings -> Users and Permissions -> Site Collection
Administrators ) You must be a site collection admin to be able to
configure/use the connector.

Hope this helps,

Pete

Subject: [MarkLogic Dev General] Mark Logic Connector for Sharepoint -
Error

I was attempting to install the Mark Logic Connector for Sharepoint.

I followed the instructions in the Administrator's Guide, but I am
stuck.

In SharePoint, on the Mark Logic Connector - Administration screen, I
get the following error when I hit the Configure or Test Connection
buttons:

Version: MLConnector.SPCModuleRequest: Object reference not set to an
instance of an object.

I also tried the mlcadm command on my Sharepoint server using the 'test'
command and get the same error. Similarly, in the mlconnector.log file
I see the same error.

Does anybody know what in general could cause this?? Do the supplied
.dll files need to be placed somewhere??

Thx,

Gary
