As Geert says, Enterprise edition is required to form a cluster of two or more
MarkLogic Server instances; without an Enterprise license key, there is no way
for a new node to join a cluster.

Just one clarification: the 3 host requirement is for forest-level failover.
If you do not have forest-level failover set up, it is fine to have a 2-node
cluster if that makes sense for your workload.

withStandard Edition

Hi Selven,

Standard Edition does not support clustering, which is required for this. You
will need a (trial?) Enterprise Edition license. You'd best contact your sales
contact of Mark Logic for this.

Once you have an Enterprise Edition license, you will have additional
functionality which will allow you to add each MarkLogic Server instance to a
cluster.

In a nutshell: To separate e-nodes and d-nodes, you will have create two
groups. Put one host to the first group, the other to the second. Assign the
data forests to the hosts in the first group, that will be the d-nodes group.
Create app servers in the second group, all hosts in the second group will
serve as e-nodes..

Note: a proper cluster requires at least 3 hosts, for the hosts to be able to
detect drop-outs..

Kind regards,
Geert
