Please forgive me if the tenor of my message seemed overly strong.  I 
have no problems with people asking questions on developer 
lists.  Unfortunately since many people use developer lists as a 
resource instead of reading the specifications themselves, I often 
have to deal with customers who have read authoritative-sounding 
posts.  It was only that authoritative sound that worried me should a 
reader find it in the archive.

Agreed!  The instance was not well formed and thus is not XML and 
should not have been loaded.

I'm sure MarkLogic appreciates when such issues are brought to 
light.  Your contribution should be very helpful to them.
