No, you haven't missed anything. This is a compliance issue.
The DAV server does chunking, but the HTTP server does not.
If opening a support request about this, reference bug #11834.

Weird. If I am right, the HTTP app server claims to be an HTTP 1.1
server. And if I am right again, from the last paragraph of the
section 3.6.1 of the HTTP 1.1 spec (RFC 2612), this is mandatory:
All HTTP/1.1 applications MUST be able to receive and decode the
"chunked" transfer-coding, and MUST ignore chunk-extension
