Hello, Consider creating a support dump first (support tab) and backing up MarkLogic's configuration files, even if only for reference. Default locations for configuration files: /var/opt/MarkLogic/*.xml or, on Windows, [ml-home]\Data\*.xml. /opt/MarkLogic/Config/*.xml may be of interest too.
I believe you will need to create the correct number of forests for each non-auxiliary database as well, possibly with the same forest names, before performing a database-level restore. Just give it the same name as before and do the basic settings. It will inherit al the indexes and search configurations etc once you restore the database from the backup. I am sure you know this but just an FYI. When you take a backup of batabase all the content is also backed up. So restoring the database will also restore the content.
