You also need the xdbc:* privs to actually do much but this error looks like user/password authentication not roles/privs

The name of the admin user may not be 'admin' though (any user with admin role will do). Also, make sure you got the password right. Try logging in on the admin interface using the credentials you are passing in. If that succeeds, than they should work..
