You may also want to consider compressing the file (xdmp:zip-create). Not only will you reduce the size, you might get the file download dialog automatically. If the users don't need to wait for the file, maybe xdmp:email() supports attachments or ML could write the result to a shared location (network path, ftp, etc.). Lots of options :)
