Resolved.

I ran this command to get a list of all the
installed packages: pkgutil --pkgs-plist

In the results I found the following line: <string>com.marklogic.server</string>

I ran this command to remove it: sudo pkgutil --forget com.marklogic.server

Here was the result of this command:  Forgot package 'com.marklogic.server' on 
'/'.

 

I then attempted to install MarkLogic 4.2
and…surprise, it installed just fine!
