I'd advise contacting support to review your plan. You'd also need to roll back 
the security database, which isn't easy to do.

Assuming all your databases have data directories, it might be easiest to 
simply shut down the server and capture the data directory contents 
(/var/opt/MarkLogic on linux or Solaris). Then your downgrade plan would call 
for reinstalling 4.2, restoring the data directory backup, starting the server, 
and restoring your database backup.
