I don't think it's supported. But as long as the CPU architecture is the same,
the forest format should be compatible. Rename the forest directory to match
the new forest name. The structure is always
{$data-dir}/Forests/{$forest-name}. Create the new forest and it should see the
old data.
You could also backup and restore. That could be less error-prone, and would be
supported.
Or if the CPU architectures are *not* the same, use XQSync.
