Which version of MarkLogic are you using? Which version of RecordLoader? What’s the exact command you’re issuing to invoke the JAR? What’s the error message you’re getting? If you’re using MarkLogic 6, you might also take a look at mlcp <http://docs.marklogic.com/guide/ingestion/content-pump>.
