Hi, I've recently noticed on my Macbook Pro (8Gb RAM, 512 Gb SSD) that running MarkLogic as a service uses excessive amounts of "Virtual Memory"[1], actually making other applications unresponsive to the point where the Finder says "Your system has run out of application memory". See the screenshots at the link below.
http://imgur.com/a/q2yB3/all Apparently, by looking at the second screenshot (of the Activity Monitor), MarkLogic is using a whopping 72Gb of Virtual Memory ... ! Stopping the MarkLogic daemon divides the Virtual Memory by seven (last screenshot) which makes me think that it's indeed MarkLogic and not another running application. I'm using 7.0-3. Here's the status of the principal database used on this system: Forest <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Forest§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Host <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Host§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> State <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=State§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Documents <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Documents§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Fragments <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Fragments§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835>Deleted Fragments <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Deleted%20Fragments§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Stands <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Stands§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Size <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Size§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835>Free Space <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Free%20Space§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835>Large Free Space <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Large%20Free%20Space§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835>Fast Free Space <http://localhost:8001/database-status.xqy?db-forest-order=Fast%20Free%20Space§ion=database&database=11991725058775836835> Documents <http://localhost:8001/forest-status.xqy?forest=576444596996463394> jfix.local <http://localhost:8001/host-status.xqy?host=13287422194782254165> open <http://localhost:8001/forest-status.xqy?section=forest&forest=576444596996463394> 713,6831,436,507232512,380 MB66,758 MBn/an/aTotal713,6831,436,507232512,380 MB Is this size of database getting too big for a development laptop? Also, if there is not enough free disk space available, could that play a part when ML hoards virtual memory, maybe to run its merge operations? cheers, Jakob.
