Shashidhar, It's not necessary to limit to 1 forest to avoid exceeding your hardware. Forests are just partitions of your database, much like stands are partitions of a forest. For a given number of documents in your database, your disk footprint will be comparable, whether you have 1 forest or 6.
If you add additional forests to your database, the rebalancer will spread documents across all of the forests. This will, however, consume a fair bit of I/O since the rebalancer is transactional and will create new stands in the new forests, which will then merge into large stands in those forests. As documents are rebalanced out of your current forest, merges will also occur there to reclaim disk space by removing the deleted documents. An additional benefit of adding more forests is that you will be able to ingest new documents at a higher rate due to increased parallelism across the forests. Wayne.
